Nine

Today is April 21.  We close on our current home on April 30.  That means that in 9 days our first home will be sold and we will no longer be homeowners in Virginia.  In 9 days we will be returning to the state that we have always called 'home'.  This is a bittersweet time for us as we prepared to close the Virginia chapter of our lives and begin the next chapter in Pennsylvania.  We will never forget all of the memories we have created over the last 9 years and will cherish the time we spent in the DC metro area.  It's been a good run living in the south and who knows maybe some day we will return!

What a difference 5 years makes.....

At the end of February, Andy and I signed the paperwork in order to begin building our second home.  This time however, we will be making the move from Virginia to Pennsylvania.  Although it was a tough decision to leave the state that we have called home for almost 9 years, we are excited to begin this next adventure with our family.

We are going to be building our new home in Westwind Estates.  We have selected the Ravenna model with a cottage exterior.

On the upper level of the home, we have selected to build the bonus room which we plan on using as Andrew's playroom.  In the master bathroom we opted to eliminate the tub & shower combination.  We chose to add the tile shower stall which provides us with a linen closet located within the master bathroom. We also added a door to the water closet aka toilet, because let's face it, who doesn't want privacy while they are using the facilities!

On the main level of the home,we will have a stone fire place located on the side of the family room.  We also added the morning room with the gourmet island and a french door which will lead outside to our future deck.  In the kitchen we changed the appliance layout by adding double wall ovens and a gas cooktop.  We also selected a 3 car side entry garage so that there will be lots of space for all of Andrew's toys and bikes.

We opted not to finish the basement since we will likely be spending most of our time in the bonus room.  However, we did add a french door and windows so that it will not feel like a dungeon.

This past weekend we traveled back to PA in order to complete several appointments. Our first appointment was with Guardian to set up our security system.  Andy splurged on outdoor speakers for the deck and i splurged on central vac for the entire home.  Our second appointment was at Rusmar flooring where we selected our hardwood, tile and carpet.  Finally, our last appointment we met with our sales agent to finalize any structural changes to the home and add in electrical items.

Our hardwood selection with a sample of the cabinets and granite.  The entire first floor will be hardwood except for the family room.

The floor tiles will be the same throughout the laundry, hall bath and master bath.  The accent border will be located in the master shower.

The carpet (wildwood) will be in the family room and throughout the entire upstairs hallway, bedrooms and bonus room.

Ryan Homes is currently in the process of applying for our building permits.  In about 2 months we will be meeting with our project manager for our pre-construction meeting.  We will continue to update as changes occur.  In the meantime we are working hard to sell our current home.

Stay tuned....
